Project Overview

We transformed the odd wall separating the living room and kitchen into an open floor plan design, seamlessly combining these two spaces. The kitchen now features elegant white perimeter cabinetry, complemented by a black Shaker-style island that serves as the focal point. The homeowners were delighted with the sophisticated blend of black, white, and wooden elements, appreciating how these were smoothly incorporated into the remodel.

Challenges & Solutions

Challenge One

When patching the floors where the wall was previously, we encountered a challenge with the prefinished engineered hardwoods with inconsistent gaps between the floorboards.

Solution One

Due to the inconsistency of the gaps, the traditional tongue and groove method was not optimal for our flooring project. Instead, we meticulously cut the floorboards at a mitered angle and applied glue beneath them to effectively fill in these irregular gaps, ensuring a smooth and cohesive finish.

Challenge Two

Throughout the process of this remodel, it was challenging to keep the homeowner’s budget in line while still creating a space that they would enjoy.

Solution Two

Our design and build team remained cognizant of this during the design process and were transparent with them when a certain desired change would adjust the budget.
