Project Overview

Converting the existing garage into Mom's master suite meant the cars needed a new home. So we built one from scratch behind the house. The existing garage door, trims, wall paneling, and part of the concrete driveway were all demoed. Fencing came down, landscaping was cleared, and a brand new two-car garage went up with a fresh expanded driveway to match.

The door finish is a flush panel in black with dark tint glass and four windows on the right side. Clean, modern, and intentional. It looks like it was always supposed to be there.

Then came the screened porch, which quickly became everyone's favorite part of the project. What was once an open deck with covered grills and scattered furniture is now a fully enclosed, finished porch with recessed lighting, ceiling fans, shiplap ceiling, and room for a full living setup. It feels like an extra room, just with a better view.

Together these two additions made the whole project work. Mom got her suite. The cars got a better garage. And both of them got a place to sit outside without the bugs.

I can’t say enough good things about DGK. From the first meeting to the final photos everything went smooth and was completed with care, kindness, and professionalism. The team takes the time to get to know you and understand how to create a space that reflects who you are but is also functional. We lived in our home during the entire construction process and there was not a single issue. They far exceeded my expectations from beginning to end!

Challenges & Solutions

Challenge One

Creating a Space for the Clients’ Dogs   While working on the addition, the clients needed a safe area for their dogs to stay

Solution One

We set up a temporary fence in the yard to give them space to move around, but the dogs weren’t fans of it (they made that clear, haha). They ended up staying in a few rooms inside the house, which turned out to be much more comfortable for them.

Challenge Two

Centering Windows   We needed to center the new windows based on the location, while also matching the spacing of the nearby corner window.

Solution Two

We measured the bed, marked the center, and then spaced the windows evenly from that point. We also matched the same distance from the corner window for a balanced, symmetrical look.
